Rabindranath and Nazrul islam

II Kazi Nazrul Islam (1899-1976)      Rabindranath (1861 -1941) Nazrul started a bi-weekly magazine, publishing the first "Dhumketu" "ধূমকেতু" (Comet) on August 12, 1922. Earning the moniker of the "rebel poet”, Nazrul also aroused the suspicion of British authorities. A political poem published in "Dhumketu" in September 1922 led to a police raid on the magazine's office and arrested Nazrul . On April 14, 1923 he was transferred from the jail in Alipore to Hooghly in Kolkata, he began a 40-day fast to protest mistreatment by the British jail superintendent. Nazrul broke his fast more than a month later and was eventually released from prison in December 1923.
On 21st Feb 1923 at 6 pm at Rammohan Library Hall, Rabindranath read his new Lyric Drama, "Basanata" and on 22nd Feb  he dedicated the book to Nazrul by writing in his book;
"Sreeman Kabi Nazrul Islam/Snehabhajanesu / "
Biographer of Rabindranath wrote;
 "In the Puja vacation of 1328  Bangabda (1922 AD ) the young poet Nazrul (1898 -1976) accompanying Prof. Shahidullah came to Santiniketan to meet Rabindranath." Probably, that was his first meeting with Rabindranath and was introduced with him. Nazrul prayed for his blessings for his newly published magazine " Dhumketu" edited by him. Rabindranath did the needful by writing 8 lines, saying "Aay chale aay re Dhumketu "as a mark of his blessings on 9th Aug 1922 (24th Shraban 1329). This blessings , after getting it blocked, was inserted on the first page of the magazine just at the bottom of the title Dhumketu, and above the editorial in the editorial column on and from the first issue of Shraban  published on 11 Aug 1922. From the next issue it was printed on the 3rd  page  above the editorial. In Aswin issue published on 5th Aswin (22nd Sept) he wrote a poem titled "Anandamayeer Agaman", for which he  was red-marked in the eyes of the police. The office of the magazine was searched thoroughly by the police and he was arrested for imprisonment rigorously.from 16th Jan 1923. Rabindranath dedicated his book "Basanta" as a mrk of love and respect to Nazrul and send a copy of the book to the jail with a friend of him, namely Pabitra Gangopadhyay [ 1893-1974] for him to be handed over to him in the Presidency jail on 28th Feb 1923.
