Rabindranath in America - 3rd time (contd-13)

In the night, Union Club arranged for Rabindranath a dinner. Prof. Woods invited many persons including professors of University and other important persons. The discussions were nice and healthy  which reminds some dinner in London. After dinner they talked about Rhymes and  Rhythms. Rabindranath recited some poems and sung a few songs at the request of Prof, Woods.
Prof Woods and Dr. Slocum gave promises to utilise their sources for collection of funds.
On 16th Jan, Rabindranath was invited in a tea party arranged by Mrs Strate.
Rabindranath presented himself in a broken heart in the dinner arranged by Poetry Society of new York.  He spent three fruitless months in New York and other places.
Rathindranath wrote in his diary;
" I was expecting an outbursts and it did come. This was the first time I thought he lost his dignity. I was moved to tears, it hurt me terribly.This was no occasion to give vent to his wounded feelings. It seemed a tragedy to me."
After a few days they went to Chicago to Mrs Moody's residence and boarded there.
Having reached Chicago they met Dr. Edwin Herbert Lewis and Miss Jane Addams for discussion about the collection of fund for  Viswa Bharati.
Jane Addams (1860-1935);Chicago-based settlement house leader; author of Twenty Years at Hull House (1909);
opposed US entry into WW I)
But even then it became very difficult to collect fund in large amount. At last Dr. Lewis took them to one Mrs. C - who promised to contribute an yearly grant which they thought it better since large amount of donations were unavailable at that moment.
