Rabindranathy tried many times for improvement of Agriculture and welfare of villages but he was not successful.This time started doing work without any formal inauguration of the project. Elmhirst wrote that he went to Surul with Rathindranath and Kasahar on the day just before 5th Feb and saw the arrangements done there after taking lunch , in the noon, they had a discussion on the 2nd floor of Santiniketan with all the members of the executive and students and Rabindranath;

Among the first batch of students there were Subirendranath Thakur,
kulaprasad Sen, [Matru], Phrinton Roy, Budha Das, Satyen Basu, Tan Sein, Niteswar Nag, S.N.Ghosh[munti], Gopal Chandra Roy, and Sanat Das .. , Budha Das came from Ceylon, Sanat came from Banars, Phrinton from from Assam, Tan Sein from Brahmadesh, . After a few days Dhirananda Roy and others also joined.Among the teachers there were Rathindranath, Santosh Chandra Majumdar, Gour Gopal Ghosh, Kalimohan Ghosh, Santosh Chandra Mitra, and Kitara Kasahara of Japan, wood and gardener. They are the main helping hand of Elmhirst.Surendr4anath Thakur sent Jatindranath Chattopadhyay to Surul, an expert in book Keeping fro Selaidah. This man of Srul waqs also interested in the welfare work other than his own duty.
