At this opportunity of printing books of lyrics, the monthly magazine "Santiniketan", containing the information of Santiniketan, was published from Bausakh1326 ( 1919-1920). The ex-teacher of Santiniketan , Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay, wrote an un-published manuscript the, "Primary History of Santiniketan Asramic Sangha" ;
" In the year 1325 Bangabda, the domiciled boarders of Santiniketan became eager to get different information of the Asram. The authorities were requested to publish a monthly journal. All the expenditures of the first print of the journal would be borne by Tapan Mohan Chattopadhyay. It was written in the next issue, Jaishtha , that the expenditure of the first issue had been borne by the ex-student Tapan Mohan Vhattopadhya, B.L. amounting to Rs, 10/- only.
In the introduction Rabindranath wrote the objectives of publication of the journal;
" Many students have left this institution after the end of their study. This attraction from the outgoing students of this Asram has helped in the expnsion of this institution and this expansion is gradually being extended to a bigger circumference......."
It was sure that Rabindranath knew that the journal would be read by people even from outside beacause of his fame.
The journal was published in four pages of a full-scape sized paper and printed in Santiniketan Press. The editor for the first year was Jagadananda Roy. His name was also earmarked as the printer. The most of the articles were written by Rabindranath as per following index.
