On 21 Feb he went to a ladies College and read some of his poems. The girls of the college encircled him in such a way that it reminded Japan's Karuijowa hill where Japanese students did the same thing. Pearson wrote; " Gurudev says, we have come to the castle of beauty and stormed it and captured it"
They went back to Chicago on 21 Feb. Pearson wrote; " We start back for Chicago this afternoon and have spent two nights and one whole day in the train."
When Rabindranath started for Texas, Rathindranath went to Urbana and passed a night in the house of Prof Brooks.Mrs. Seymour was then in Hunan of China to pass her days with her husband. Rathindranath had gone there to procure affiliation for Viswa Bharati from Illonos University and scholarship for two students.He met his classmate and at present Prof. and Head of the Dept Dr. Glassgow and Vice-president Dr. Devenport and talked to them. He managed both the affiliation and the scholarship for two students. He then called on the student of Santiniketan " Narabhup", reading there at that time.
After a few days in Chicago the Irish poet Padraic Column came as a guest of Mrs Moody to whom Rabindranath was introduced earlier. Rabindranath liked him of his simplicity, his idealistic attitude, and a true poet , knowing sufficient humours . He passed some beautiful days with him discussing about rhymes and rhythms.
Many attempts had been made for collecting funds but all were in vain.
This time Rabindranath did not to go to England . Rather as per his previous promise he sailed for Lisbon , Cpital of Potuguese on 5th Feb,1921. Pearson wrote to Andrews;
" Rathi has this morning engaged their passage on a steamer which goes to Lisbon via Azores and this will mean that Gurudev will visit Spain immefiately on his arrival in Europe." But the teamer was too small and they changed their tickets to another Dutch ship " Rhyndam" which will start on 19th Mar.
Before leaving Chicago Rabindranath was offered two lunches separately by Arts Club and Cliff Dwellers' Club in his honour.In Arts Club Rabindranath read the poem "The Mother's Prayer"and in Cliff Dweller's Club he delivered a lecture on the aims and objects of Viswa Bharati. Rathindranath also formed a committeee for collection of books for Viswa Bharati Library from the welfare organisation. Miss Kellkey, John Sinclair, and H.K.Rakshit was included in the committee.
