Rabindranth got the highest type of greetings by the people of Belgium.(Historically, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg were known as the Low Countries). But still it was not comparable with that of Holland. Pearson explained it in a letter writtn to Andrews on 8th Oct;
" In Belgium the Welcome was also warm and cordial, but it did not touch me as did that in Holland. The enthusiasm was great and the meetings both at Antwerp and Bruxelles was cdrowded, but the people are quite different from the Dutch , and did not seem so serious. In Antwerp there were strong indications of the French Nationalist movement, and there were very many young students at the meeting who listened with a great reverence and enthusiasm. In bruxelles the meeting was overcrowded and responsive, in quite a different from the response the people gave in Holland. The Belgians seem much more emotional and also more superfiacial, whereas in Holland they are slow in response but you feel the depth of their devotion and hospitalitymuch more deeply. As Gurudev put it 'the Belgians are a parody of the French'. This is very trueof the Belgians in Bruxelles, while in Antwerp they might almost be described as a parody of the Dutch. At any rate neither Gurudev nor I felt very much regret at leaving Belgium."
Rabindranath left the ideas of going to America this time but the arrival of a cable from America inviting him changed his decision and decided to go to America and informed it to Andrews in a different way on 12 Oct;
This was the reason which mede me change my mind decide to go to the Americans. for they must listen to the appeal of the East. I am leaving Pasris to-morrow for London to make preparations to sail across he Atlantic."
Kedarnath planned to organise an Opera Party which will go to America on commercial basis. Rabindranath wrote a letter to Mrs. Moody from France;
" ill only a few weeks ago was undecided whether I would visit rica. This was the reason hy I did not write to you. Directly I made up my mind I asked Pearson to inform you and I am sure ust have received his letter long before this reaches youYou know with what great delight I am looking forward to my visiting your country when I shall be able to enjoy your kind hospitality.At the end of the first week of October I shall from france to ica taRathi, my daughter-in-lawratima, ith me.For the first two months I shall have to spend time lecturing he Eastern States, trying to raise moneyfor my Schoolh is badly needed.During the Christmas I hope to be in Chicago if you are there ready to accord us welcome."
On 21st Oct,1920, in a Dutch-American Ship Rabindranath left England from Rotterdam with n and Kedarnath dasgupta.
