Nagendranath Gangopadhyay, the youngest son-in-law of Rabindranath, was appointed as a Professor against the post of Guruprasad Singh Professor of Agriculture in Calcutta University by the recommendation of Sir Ashutosh Mukhopadhyay with the salary of Rs. 500/- only. As per the terms and conditions of the service he had to upgrade his qualification by research work with full pay protection for two years. He went to England with full pay protection on April 1923 but to inject sorrow in the minds of Mira Devi he took along with him by force his son Nitindranath in the excuse of his study.But the salary of Rs. 500/- was not sufficient for the extravagant Nagendranath to cope with his expenditure and he did not feel shy of asking money frequently from Rabindranath who did not hesitate to satisfy his demands and wrote to Nagendranath, on 10 April 1923" , " I have become penniless and under debt or I could have supported you. But he assured other kinds help in Europe that he would have no difficulty in any of the big cities by simply citing my name. he woud get help."
